Welcome! This blog investigates the ordre profond, a military tactic developed by French tacticians in the eighteenth century. This study originally took the form of an Honours Thesis (as described in the about me page), and was submitted to the University of Victoria for final review in Spring, 2012. Since then, I have decided to make my work more publicly accessible.
I hope that publishing this work in the form of a blog will accomplish a few key goals. First, I hope that the blog format will allow users to easily search through chapters, sections, and topics. I appreciate that few users will want to read this work from beginning to end, but rather will be looking for particular details. Second, I hope that by breaking the work into topics and sections, comments can be posted in response to more specific details and lines of arguement. Comments are enabled on every blog post, allowing users to discuss and comment upon particular, confined details rather than the work as a whole. Finally, the blog format highlights the unprofessional nature of this work. As it is an honours thesis, it has not been peer-reviewed or academically published. So that no one has any misconceptions about my qualifications, I wanted to publish this in a form that is easily recognizable as amateur.
